As part of strategy to improve air quality, the Government of the United Kingdom is set to announce a ban to all new petrol and diesel cars and vans in the country from 2040 amid fears that rising levels of nitrogen oxide pose a major risk to public health.The government is due to publish a court-mandated clean air strategy on Wednesday, July 26, while ministers are to unveil a £255m fund to help councils introduce steps to deal with pollution from diesel vehicles as part of £3bn spending on air quality.
BMW has also announced plans for an electric Mini to be constructed, while Volvo has also progressed towards building cleaner cars.
The High Court had ordered the Government to produce plans to tackle air pollution by July 31.
The announcement follows similar plans laid out in France.
