Across Nigeria at 25 venues, the University will conduct a computer-based scholarship examination for Fall 2017 students. The test will take place on August 5, the fourth such nationwide scholarship exam that AUN has conducted since 2012.
In its tradition of attracting the finest students from across Nigeria and beyond, AUN will offer 75 scholarships, two for students from each of the nation’s 36 states and the Federal capital, and one nationwide.
The AVP of Recruitment & Marketing, Julius AyukTabe, said the examination centers have been carefully selected to cover all the six geopolitical zones: “We will use JAMB’s CBT centers.”
Since inception, AUN has assembled the best and brightest candidates from all over Africa to study under one roof. The University seeks to make its education possible for all qualified applicants, regardless of family income.
Each year, AUN sets aside a large fund for scholarships and other forms of financial aid to undergraduate students. Over the years, it has awarded about 1,000 different scholarships. They include close to 300 that have covered full tuition, board, books, and meals.
In the 2016/2017 session alone, AUN dedicated more than ₦102 million to its scholarship program, for both new and returning students.
Since its founding 13 years ago, AUN has given out more scholarships than any other private educational institution in Nigeria.
In addition to its own scholarships, the University, registered as a non-profit trust, also collaborates with others to help students. Organizations funding scholarships at AUN include the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation, the Peace Corps Nigeria Alumni Foundation, US-based Friends of Nigeria, and various state and national governments.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whose boundless generosity created the University over a decade ago, has personally contributed to provide an enormous amount of financial aid to AUN students. The AUN founder believes that financial constraint should not be a barrier to quality education for students who meet AUN’s high academic expectations.
