Qatar prepares to sue Gulf of Arab states over damages caused by blockade
Oil rich Qatar is preparing to sue Gulf of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia for damages caused by imposed blockade on Doha.
Reports say Qatari authorities have hired Swiss lawyers to sue Gulf blockade states which are ‘responsible to compensate’ those hit by the anti-Qatar measures.
According to Qatar’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairman Ali Bin Smaikh al-Marri , action would take action against Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, for their role which has sparked the worst Gulf crisis in decades.
“We’ll be coordinating to start legal action with those affected by these sanctions,” Marri told a news conference.
“The three countries are responsible to compensate those affected,” he said, adding that many Qataris qualified for compensation.
“Some cases will be filed in courts in those three countries and in some courts that have international jurisdictions, like in Europe, related to compensation.”
Qatar’s attempt to sue over the blockade is coming a day after Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said there is no going back on the list of demands made.
Adel al-Jubeir noted that there will be no negotiations over a list of demands the kingdom and its allies have submitted to Qatar to end the regional diplomatic row.
